Stormy Weather may Mean Binding Restrictions

With hurricane season beginning June 1, we would like to remind you of the binding restrictions we put into place if a storm watch or warning is in effect in your area. Please note that this does not modify any underwriting restrictions currently in place in coastal counties of Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas.

We ask that no new coverage, or increases in coverage, be bound during the period that a storm watch or warning has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS). The NWS uses the following definitions:

  • Watch: A storm will hit the area in all likelihood. While the storm may be some distance away, all of the contributing factors indicate the storm will hit the area.
  • Warning: A storm is imminent and weather conditions pose a threat to life or property.

The binding restriction applies to the area threatened by the storm. To learn what specific areas are affected by a storm watch or warning, visit weather.gov, the official website of the NWS, or the weather-related website of your choice.

Our restriction applies to perils associated with storms such as wind, flood, surface water, etc. All Personal Lines business is covered by this restriction including Homeowners, Automobile, Inland Marine and Dwelling Fire. Certain exceptions during a watch or warning are permitted, such as when a customer is replacing an automobile on an existing policy or has a previously-scheduled closing on the sale of a property.

If you are unclear if binding restrictions are in effect in your area due to a watch or warning, please call your underwriter at 866-675-3345.

Thank you for your continued business and support.
